MOLE REVIEW

A mole check, also known as a skin exam or dermatological evaluation, is a procedure in which moles and other skin lesions are examined for possible signs of skin cancer or other concerning conditions. It’s important to perform these checks regularly as part of a good skincare routine and for early detection of problems. During a mole check, our dermatologist, Dr. Inés Gracia, will thoroughly examine your skin for changes in the shape, size, color, or texture of existing moles, as well as the appearance of new lesions. She will typically use a dermatoscope, an instrument that allows for a more detailed examination of mole structures.
If a suspicious mole or lesion is found during the check, your doctor may recommend a biopsy to obtain a tissue sample for further laboratory analysis. This will help determine if there are any abnormalities or if further treatment is necessary.

It’s important to note that mole screening is especially important for those with a family history of skin cancer, those with fair skin, frequent sun exposure or past sunburns, and those with a large number of moles or atypical moles.
